The word demography is derived from two Greek words ‘demos’ which means ‘People’ and ‘graphein’ which means ‘science’ to draw or to study. Thus, demography is the statistical and mathematical study of the size, structure, territorial distribution, and composition of a population and changes therein.
The components of demography are birth, death, and migration.
The processes of demography are fertility, mortality, and migration. - Write the reason behind the unequal distribution of the population in Nepal.
Population refers to the total number of people living in a particular area at a certain time. And, population distribution can be defined as the arrangement of the population on the basis of the geographical, ecological, developmental, or any other form of land division at a given time. People tend to go and settle in those places where resources are abundantly available, the climatic condition is most suitable where they can earn their living and get health, education, electricity, transportation, and other facilities and services. So, the Terai region is the most densely populated. Similarly, Urban cities like Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Pokhara, and Birgunj are mostly crowded because all sorts of opportunities and facilities are available there. The population density of the Terai region is higher. Some reasons for the unequal distribution of the population in Nepal are:- Facilities are not equally spread in all parts of Nepal.
- The geographical structure is not similar in all parts of the country.
- Fertilizing capacity of the land.
- Different weather in different regions.
- Lack of plans and policies.
- Lack of security.
- Lack of employment opportunities.
